Curly Girls Rule!
Published on August 07, 2008 at 3:01am
For years the hair-product marketplace was suffused with potions for straight-haired folks. If you had wavy, kinky, or coily locks, you were fresh outta luck Pantene, V05, and Herbal Essences didnt want to hear that. Silky-straight ladies now have to make way. The curly hair market is a booming biz, and so many of the big drugstore chains are scrambling to get in the loop. Memo to curly girls: If youve been looking for the kind of products that will transform your knotted birds nest into the goddesslike waterfall of spirals youve dreamed of, skip CVS. Head to GBS instead. This month, the local beauty supply chain is hosting a series of events by Lorraine Massey, celebrity stylist, author of Curly Girl, innovator of the Curly Cut, and co-owner of DevaCurl and New Yorks Devachan Salon. In case youve never heard of her or her products and your hairs a hot, snarly mess, just know you need to make an appointment pronto. It will be like having Mariah Carey serenade you while Vincent Van Gogh paints your portrait. Or something like that. Either way, get thee to Curly Hair Camp at GBS.
Massey and her army of curl commandos will offer complimentary in-store hair consultations, product demos, samplings, book signings, and a 20 percent discount on all Deva products, including a Deva professional haircut (which can cost a pretty penny, be forewarned). This three-day hair event kicks off Thursday at the branches in Boca and Aventura, and Saturday it hits two Miami stores: GBS Pinecrest (11297 S. Dixie Hwy.), from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and then off to the flagship in Coral Gables (308 Miracle Mile) from 2 to 5 p.m. Call 305-443-6246 to book at the Gables store, and visit www.gbsbeauty.com for a complete schedule.
